Petroglyphs are pictures and symbols that have been cut, carved or scratched into the surface of a rock by the people of prehistoric times. In the Hawaiian Language the petroglyphs are called kaha ki'i and were thought to be the first efforts of a language of symbols.

Tapa cloth is a traditional handicraft and art form from the Polynesian Islands. Tapa is made exclusively from the under bark of the paper mulberry tree, which is then beaten into thin sheets on a hard wood log with a tapa beater. The beat of the tapa beaters and the songs that they sing is still fascinating to listen to. Tapa has been used for centuries for clothing and decorating of village houses, ceremonial purposes and gift giving for weddings, royalty and honored visitors.
