Summer is right around the corner, and these three happy sand dollars are just the way to kick off summertime play and learning!
Sand dollars are invertebrates that live in warm, shallow seas...when they die (either by being eaten or from natural causes) they leave behind beautiful skeletons or 'tests,' which have enchanted people for generations with their delicate relief pattern and petal-like cutouts. They have often been thought to be coins belonging to mermaids, hence, their name "sand dollars!"
This set includes:
3 felt sand dollars
3 strips of kelp
-This Montessori-inspired set of three (3) sand dollars is lovingly handmade with three different colors of wool felt and scraps of organic cotton.
-The star patterns are hand-embroidered with floss and are just waiting to be held and used by little hands!
-They are stuffed with organic cotton fibers, and come nestled in their own bed of cotton sea kelp!
-Please note that the kelp is made from various scraps of green fabric from my scrap bucket--you may not receive the exact colors and patterns as the set in the photos.
These would be a great addition to a Montessori or Waldorf classroom, or your summer-themed nature table! This would also make a lovely gift for a beach lover.
