An 8" tall (from bottom of jar to top of lid handle) x 5 1/4" wide, ANTIQUE nice sun-colored-amethyst color, blown into mold, glass cigar jar w/ original lid.

The jar is beveled ( multi - faceted) to give it a very ornate look and the base of the jar is embossed with a beautiful sunburst pattern.

This jar is in exceptional condition. It has just a few very minor nicks and light wear, mainly on the base and where the lid came into contact with the rim of the jar. It also has a dip on one edge of the rim which looks like it was the result of the hand finishing process.

This jar lid also has a humidor, a small open compartment created as a result of the knob being hollow, not solid, when it was blown. From underneath, a small piece of gauze or sponge was inserted into the hollow and then water was poured into it and it was soaked up. This kept the cigars fresh and moist, not dried out.

The lid on this jar and the rim of the jar have been factory ground so they would tightly come together.

This is a very high quality jar. It is made of heavy thick glass and is quite indestructible and heavy in weight. Note this isn't just a factory jar that a cigar manufacturer sold their product in, this was a show piece cigar jar that someone of Royalty would of used in their home, to store their personal cigars in. Thus the quality manufacturer and the exquisite look to it.

The purple amethyst color is the result of it being exposed to the sun light. With very few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1914 will turn sun-colored-amethyst. Not only does this purple/amethyst color make it a great looking lid, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique!

There are not a lot of these old cigar jars that have survived the elements of time, especially ones that still have the original lids!
