This necklace includes both the pendant and the chain. All silver toned parts are silver plated. The pendant is made with a fried glass gem. The gem is clear with a white "cat's eye", giving it a snowy white appearance. I "fry" glass marbles and gems, giving it a unique appearance. Each is one of a kind. The chain is a figaro style and is adjustable between 18" and 20", with a lobster claw clasp and two inch adjustor chain.

When I make my jewelry, I try to reflect a balance of nature and spirit, mind and body. My pieces have been described as having a "sense of zen" to them. Mainly, I try to emulate what Melusine would have in her collection.

* * * There are two types of myths regarding Melusine. The Melusine in various parts of pre-Christian Europe were water sprites, water nymphs, or what I liken to "fresh water mermaids." As such, they would collect things that they find beautiful and/or unique. However, the French myths describe Melusine (Melusina) of Poitou as a woman whose father was mortal and mother was fairy. Every Saturday, she would turn into a half serpent (or mermaid like creature). A mortal noble fell in love with her and she married him with the stipulation that she be left alone in her chambers every Saturday, and that he neither ask her about it nor try to see what happens. Over time, his curiosity grew until one day he broke his promise and snuck into her chamber, where he found her in her half serpent form. She changed form further and flew out the window. Her husband never saw her again, though she visited her children every night and guarded over them and her descendents. * * *

* * * * * * * I like to believe... Mermaids are the magpies of the sea. * * * * * * *
