This set of three authentic antique pocket lighters are beautiful examples of European Trench Art. The lighters' basic shape and rudimentary firing mechanisms are very similar to lighters dated between 1911-1918. As with a lot folk art, two of these lighters contain no markings to date them or identify the artisans that crafted each. All of these lighters were made in Europe, probably during the World War 1 and/or World War 2 eras. All three slip cases are made from brass; the the first has a smooth natural patina finish, the second a rope-like decorative midriff band; and the third has embossed art deco design. All two are unused, new-old-stock and all three are in sparking. Here's some add'l info:

1. The patinated brass model was missing a wick. After installing one, it works very well and probably could be used daily. The outer case has two machined notches in the side. I'm not sure of their purpose, maybe for attaching the lighter to a belt loop.

2. The smallest lighter has the name "Diane" embossed on its base. I believe it was made in Greece. It is unused/tested new-old-stock. It sparks, but the file wheel is rough to turn.

3. The silver-colored, art deco lighter is in excellent condition and is is unused/tested new-old-stock. It sparks perfectly. There are a couple of very minor flaws in the plated finish, nothing that I think detracts from striking beauty.

Please bare in mind, these functional pieces of Trench Art are roughly 75 years old. Though they are not fragile, they are somewhat delicate. The soft, thin walled brass slip cases can be bent and easily dinged. I encourage the new owner of these lighters to treat them with the reverent care appropriate for any historic artifact. All will be shipped with a flint and without fluid. (Please do not store the lighters with the flint though, as it will deteriorate and become impacted over time.) I've provided high quality photos to offer the best preview of these lighters' condition. Please take a look and feel free to ask any questions.
