This elegant double tiered necklace is made from a lovely collection of genuine green sea glass.

The chain is an oxidized copper. The lower chain measures 18" and is made with 8 distinct pieces sea glass, all in different shades of green. The pieces measure about 5/8" by 1/2". The upper chain is at 16" in length and has 5 pieces of 1/2" sea glass.

Sea Glass takes about 30-60 years to form naturally tumbling in the ocean. Most glass found in the USA dates from the 1800's to the 1960's. It starts as wine bottles, dishware, art glass, windows, canning jars, ink bottles etc that end up in the ocean. The glass breaks up and becomes soft as the tide and waves move the pieces around the ocean floor. From a colonial era onion bottle to a 1930's coke bottle, there is a little bit of history infused in each piece.

This necklace features many distinct hues of green glass.
Soft Blue/green- peak production 1880's to 1930's
Fern Green (rare)- peak production from 1770's to 1950's
Kelly Green-peak production 1930's to today
Jade Green-peak production 1860's to today
Soft Green-1890's to 1920's

I collect all my sea glass by hand and it is all in the shape that I find it on the beach. None of it is machine tumbled or shaped.
