Yes, It's a completely real deer nose! This nose was part of a full ''cape'' (head and neck) of a deer that was tanned for purposes of mounting. However, the hide suffered some hair loss during the tanning process (happens sometimes) so I salvage some parts...this nose included!

It was originally ''wet tanned'', a process that allows the hide to be pliable and stretchy when wet. I have been allowing this nose to dry since 4/18/12. You can re-wet it to make it once again pliable, I recently rehydrated one today (5/2/12) and I just let it soak in a baggie of water while I was at work. I returned home to a soft, pliable nose!

This is the exact nose you will receive, however the final photo showing the backside of the nose is from another nose, though they dont look much different.

If you want, I can ship this in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel against it to keep it moist on it's way to you. If you want this option, leave me a note on checkout, otherwise it will be shipped ''dry''.

This would be neat to use perhaps for a mask. When pliable, you can easily sew/stitch it to some leather or materials of your choice.

This deer was killed humanely during hunting season, and went on to provide food for local families. Hunting is a way of life out here in Western Pa, and how a lot of people here put dinner on the table. Consider that this deer met a very humane death, especially compared to that of most cows, pigs, and chickens you find int he grocery store. This deer lived on green grass and drank from cool streams. I consider human beings part of that circle of life, and one animal preying on another is completely natural. But i'm leaving up to you as to whether or not you consider it ''cruelty free''. I like to know where my food comes from, and I respect that a lot of people want to know where their crafting materials come from. This is a by-product that would otherwise be thrown away, and I dont like to waste anything when a life is involved. Waste not!
