Fair Winds brown transferware - Copper Engravings Depicting Historical Scenes of Chinese Export to America

The Friendship of Salem Massachusetts was a three-masted, square-rigged, 342-ton vessel, registered in 1797 to merchants Jerathmiel Peirce and Aaron Waite.

She traveled the world trading for exotic spices, sugar and coffee, making 16 voyages to China, Java, Sumatra, Madras, London. Hamburg, Archangel, St.Petersburg, and other European ports. She was captured by the British in the War of 1812. The Peabody Essex Museum in Massachusetts houses the ship logs for several of her voyages, as well as Aaron Waite's shipping papers detailing information about the ship's accounts.

This plate captures the historic vessel with the Friendship of Salem in the center, the New York Harbor of 1830 on the right, US Delaware capturing Le Croyable at the bottom, the port of Canton in 1830 on the left side and the America's Bald Eagle on the top.

The plate is titled the Fair Winds pattern - the bottom is marked:

In excellent condition with very slight crazing on back or underneath side only - no chips or cracks or rough edges
