Zoo Line Wooden Bird Nodder - Mid Century Modern Bird Desk Accessory
This strikingly unique bird nodder is a member of the much loved Zoo Line, a run of wooden creatures sold as souvenirs at zoos in the late 50's. Much like the wooden animals of Kay Bojesen, this fabulous piece displays a very humorous take on the animal, while at the same time displaying incredibly modernist aesthetics. With its abstract wooden body attached to a hanging metal weight, this dodo bird will stand on any shelf and "nod" to keep its balance; its head moving forward to compensate for the movement of the weight. Furthermore, it features a clip attached to the end of its beak, so it can easily hold memos or business cards. Stamped "Copyright 1958 Zoo Line", and featuring its original Zoo Line sticker, this little guy is in good vintage condition, though one of his wings is missing (as seen in photo 3) and there is general wear to the metal and paint (though none of it detracts from the overall look). Far ahead of its time, this incredibly rare Zoo Line piece is sure to take center stage among any collection of vintage toys, or would make the perfect addition to any mid century home.
