White vintage owl bookends made of salt stone (saltstone) a manufactured cast stone with a bit of shimmer like snow in sunlight. Vintage seventies library decor.

An excellent pair of wise and watchful birds to hold your best nature books on a shelf or desk. Each bookend measures about 6 inches tall, with the base about 2.5" x 3.5" in size. A sort of stone wall structure holds a stump and leaf, where the detailed owls with the yellow eyes perch.

These are molded forms, with a matte texture and weight of stone, a product popular in vintage Italian figurines, made of actual salt. They are solid, not crumbly at all, and clink like porcelain when you tap them with a fingernail. They have a sort of faceted shimmer like granite, and they're both funny and serious.

Condition is good, with some flaws. There are some surface marks best visible in photo #3 (disclorations that may wash off, and might not, but are fairly minor), and some surface scratches on the eyes, and there is one little chip knocked from the front corner or one book end. It's not sharp and actually blends in really well, as you can tell from the pictures, but it's there. No other cracks or flakes, structurally they're strong and will last for ages.

Great for a touch of quirk in a library, or in a kid's room.
