An authentic piece of vintage sea pottery collected from the North Sea coast of Kirkcaldy, Scotland. This unique piece features a purple flower pattern, with yellow edging on one side.

It measures approximately 1 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inch wide (see quarter for sizing). It has, surf tumbled edges and would work perfect a jewelry pendant, mosaic, or other creative project.

This pieces was hand collected by me, gently washed, and comes packaged with care for safe delivery.

Pottery manufacturing in Kirkcaldy started in 1714. By 1890, there were four factories in operation, producing everything from tea cups and plates to spittoons and figurines. Kirkcaldy was the perfect location for pottery production. An abundance of clay found in local soil, as well as coal to fire the kilns, created a thriving industry. At its peak, over 400 people in the town were employed in the creation of pottery. With easy access to the harbor, ships carried Kirkcaldy pottery around the world. Some pieces, such as the exclusive hand painted Wemyss Ware, gained international attention and was known to be some of the best pottery to be produced in Scotland.

Sadly, the Depression brought a sudden end to over two centuries of manufacturing in the small seaside town. Although the exact age of these pieces is unknown, they are a small part of Scottish history, certain to be at least 80 years old!
