This is a lot of twelve (12) glass cabochons in transparent "Ruby AB", which is a rich transparent red with an aurora borealis finish that lends flashes of amber and green when the light hits. These stones have flat gold foiled backs, and measure 10 x 12 mm each. They do not have holes.

They were manufactured in West Germany from the 1950's - 1970's for the costume jewelry trade; they were meant to resemble gemstones, which is evidenced by quirky color names like "saphyr" and "topas".

The stones show typical wear for glass of this age, such as foil oxidization or small nicks around the edges. Still, they are gorgeous and lovely old stones. I use them in my own work, which you can view at my other Etsy shop: http://beadmask.etsy.com
As you can see there, I typically mount them in beaded bezels, or set them in leather. They are also excellent for mounting, gluing, wrapping and whatever else your imagination can stir up!
