Roasted, grilled, steamed or stir fried - these crisp and colorful hand-sculpted stoneware bell peppers bring farmers market freshness wherever they're displayed.

Everything about sculpting stoneware produce is challenging, even color glazing them because nothing in nature is one solid color. With stoneware glaze being a compound of metal oxides, opacifiers and silica to form glass, there are a lot a variables that seem to give them a mind of their own. Color-glazing produce brings out the creative chemist in me to break down every color detail of the subject and then layer, thin, blend, mix or sand down each glaze layer application to the color blend I wish to achieve. Even more challenging is that the majority of stoneware color glazes are not the end result color while in their liquid form. My light lime green glaze is a pastel lavender color in its liquid form. It's like painting in the blind with a heart full of hopes and wishes.

Red, yellow and green Bell Peppers are are hollow sculptures like all of my fruits and vegetables. I do enjoy the challenge of sculpting hollow and crossing my fingers that they don't explode in the kiln. And, even though they are hollow, they are heavy like stoneware clay promises to be. Each bell pepper is roughly 4 inches tall and 3 inches wide.
