The shard measurements are (from right to left): 1" x 1-1/4" x 1" x 1-3/4" long on the longest side
This shard is ancient, from a tribe that no longer exists. Although the original pot has long since gone, the shard has survived for hundreds of years and its imperfections are what makes it so interesting and absolutely one of a kind.
The word "Anasazi" (ah-nuh-SAH-zee) is used to describe a distinctive American Indian civilization and culture that existed from about 1200 B.C. to A.D. 1300 in the Four Corners Area of Southwestern United States. These people are probably best known for the ruins of their monumental cliff dwellings at places like Mesa Verde, which they abandoned at the end of the 13th century. It is still a mystery as to where this tribe went or even why they disappeared.
