The beadspanner is a multi-purpose lampworking tool for aligning/shaping/flattening glass when making beads, buttons, cabochons and interchangeable toppers. The second photo describes some of its possible uses.

The beadspanner is made of stainless steel, which does not stick to molten glass, is 2mm thick, and weighs approx. 75g.

I hope to have a more detailed user guide online soon, and will of course email this to everybody who purchases the beadspanner. It is still only at the prototype stage, but there has been so much interest in this tool that I have decided to list it for sale.

A brief history:
During spring 2010 I started making end-of-mandrel cabochons. As I didn't have a flat lap it soon become obvious that I needed to put a lot of work into flattening the cab bottoms so that they could be set properly in jewellery. I took my small graphite paddle to the ring-saw to make a slot which would accommodate a mandrel (third photo), and it made such a difference to the speed at which I could achieve a nice, flat cab bottom!

Last year I met Maria Louisa Wessels of www.beadpress.nl, who said she could make something like that in stainless steel. That made me think I could make a tool which are a lot more versatile than the original "glass aligner", and I designed the beadspanner.
