Aksel Holmsen of Norway designed these Modernist sterling guilloché enamel earrings with a raised outward curving center emerging from an oval. The outside enamel is a very pale lilac or lavender color, while the center has a deeper contrasting shade of light purple. The textures on the two distinct areas are different as well, with the outside having curved lines, and the center with a pebble grain. They are gilded, but the gold is most visible on the back, with the front having mellowed to a softer tone. The earrings are clip backs and quite comfortable when worn. One clip has a little more play than the other, but could be adjusted by your jeweler should the need arise (I took them for a test drive, and they performed well for me). The enameling is in excellent condition. This type of enameling was created in Holmsen’s workshop in Sandefjord, Norway in the 1960’s (Ginger Moro, “The Second Viking Conquest: Scandinavian Modern Jewelry,” JCK Magazine article). They are exquisitely made and are in an uncommonly found pastel color.

MARKS: NORWAY STERLING, 925S, with crossed bench tools (Aksel Holmsen’s maker’s mark)

SIZE: 1-1/8”L x 5/8”W
