This is a 13" wide x 14.5" tall tote bag made of hand dyed cotton canvas.

The straps extend 14" from the top of the bag.
The bag is hand stitched on one side with different characters, words, scribbles and symbols.

My inspiration comes from Agnes Richter, a patient committed in a mental institution in Germany in the 1860s. She hand stitched every inch of her hospital uniform jacket with text that nobody can fully decipher, on the inside and the outside of the garment in different color threads. The result, to me, is art.
I encourage you to do an internet search to look at pictures of this jacket, now part of a museum collection.

This is my own tribute and modern take on this "inspired" seamstress' work.

The bag is lined with japanese linen chambray. - (there's a close up pic on my blog!) -
The two inside pockets measure 5"x6" and 7"x 7".

A very unique bag with an unusual history. Feel free to ask me for additional information or pictures.

100% handmade, no machine was used.
