I was thrilled to find this! It is a print of one of Kitagawa Utamaro woodblock prints. This was printed in Meiji which was September 1886-July 1912-which makes this print at least 100 years old. His name is the Kanji (Chinese characters) you see in the top right corner.

The other writing explains that this is a scene from the play: courtesan Umegawa and Chubei of courier firm escaping, with umbrella and headscarves.

This print is from the series called Jitsu kurabe iro no minakami 実競色乃美名家見 (True Feelings Compared: The Founts of Love).

It is in excellent condition!

This would be beautiful framed and displayed but it could also be used in mixed media art.

It measures 14.5cm x 9.5cm.
