This is a SUPERB example of a late 1800's to early 1900's MOURNING fan. Exquisitely beautiful and not the type of fan that would have been given out by the mortuary, but one purchased for the MOURNING PERIOD (at that time a year was customary) by the mourners. This would have been a must-have in every fine household of the day, for those sad days of GRIEF.

Absolutely glorious in all it's GOTHIC splendor, this INKY, black fan appears almost ICED in SILVER details, etched and printed onto the paper. The back is solid black and looks like RAVEN FEATHERS when reversed!

When opened, this fan is a wonderful size, 8 1/2" tall, 15 1/2" wide, when fully spread. The paper is not dented or limp, it's crisp and opens easily. The fan blades are also elaborately detailed, as seen in the photos.

This is a 'pleated style' fan, DRIPPING in MACABRE and MORBID detail, including roses for the DEAD.

Simply fabulous, whether you are a GOTHIC iems collector, a MOURNING FINERY curator, or you just love fans of all types.

No tears or rips, this item is more than 100 YEARS OLD, and is offered in a condition commensurate with it's age and use.

How many FUNERALS did this fan attend, do you suppose? You may never see another one of these in this wonderful condition and this beautifully decorated!

Please convo if you have any questions. Thank you for looking at A Dose of Alchemy~~
