This is Toronto on 26 June 1976, the day the CN Tower opened to the public, and it's one of a series of images I made between April of 2012 and September of 2016 showing my adopted home city of Montreal, my old home town of Edmonton, and a selection of other Canadian cities. Consider it part of a getting-to-know-you exercise with the nation's architecture and history. Just left of the CN Tower you can see Kensington Market, the top border of the map is made by the Royal Ontario Museum, and yup, Billy Bishop Airport (at bottom, on Toronto Island) was there in '76, too.

Screenprinted in a 7th edition of 98 copies by Unik in October of 2016 at 24" square, two colours on archival white 80 lb Cougar smooth cover paper. Dimensions include a 1.5" margin. Signed and editioned. This print is archival. Note that a very affordable black frame for this can be found at the OCAD Above Ground art supply store in Toronto.

Included in the image: the CN Tower, the Toronto Harbour Commission building, the St. Lawrence Market, distillery buildings, the Cherry Street Restaurant (469 Front Street East), Union Station, the Royal York Hotel, 1st Canadian Place, TD Centre, the North Tower of RBC Plaza, Commerce Court, Osgoode Hall, the Redpath Factory, Toronto General Hospital, the old and new City Hall, the Legislature of Ontario, Ryerson campus, Maple Leaf Gardens, Whitney Block, the Victoria University Library, Little Trinity Anglican Church, the Flatiron building, George Brown College, New Broadview House, Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, Billy Bishop Airport, Canada Malting Co. silos, the Gladstone, the Drake Hotel, OCAD, the Church of George the Martyr, the Art Gallery of Toronto, St. Joseph's Health Centre, Kensington Market, Firehouse No. 8, 1 Spadina Crescent, Humberside Collegiate Institute, St. Anne's Church, the Joseph & Wolf Lebovic Centre, the Stanley Building, misc. U of T buildings, the Royal Conservatory of Music, and Casa Loma.

Note this is part of a series:
