This is a lot of twelve (12) faceted glass cabochons in transparent "White Opal", which is a gorgeous translucent white, with hues of blue and amber. The opacity varies from stone to stone. These stones have flat gold foiled backs, and measure 10 x 12 mm each.

They were manufactured in West Germany from the 1950's - 1970's for the costume jewelry trade; they were meant to resemble gemstones, which is evidenced by quirky color names like "saphyr" and "topas".

The stones show typical wear for glass of this age, such as foil flaking or small nicks around the edges. This does not detract from their beauty or elegance. I use these pieces in my own work, which you can view at my other Etsy shop: http://beadmask.etsy.com
As you can see there, I typically mount them in beaded bezels, or set them in leather. They are also excellent for mounting, gluing, wrapping and whatever else your imagination can stir up!
