This wonderful vintage sari was probably brought home as a souvenir by an intrepid 1950s or 60s traveller, put away in a drawer with its original paper label intact, and never used! More's the pity, as it is very lovely.

Made of soft, slightly sheer cotton with a wonderful handwoven texture, the sari is "shot" or woven in the dhoop-chaon (light/shadow) effect, with peachy pink and aqua. Please see the photos to appreciate how the color changes depending on how the light hits the fabric.

This fantastic color combination is enhanced by unusually lovely borders, solid peach with elaborate flowers woven in a silky white thread, probably rayon. There are wide borders on both sides, and two stripes of aqua and white at the end of the shoulder-piece or pallu.

Such a beautiful sari, and never worn -- perhaps you would like to be the first?

Circa 1950s-60s
Marked Harilela's Hand Loom Sarees
Made of cotton
Measures about 46 inches wide x 4.75 yards long
