Lovely antique black transferware covered serving dish. Made by Johnson Bros of England in semi-porcelain, in their desirable Hop pattern. Johnson Bros developed semi-porcelain to have the beauty of fine china with the durability of ironstone.

The dish is 10 3/4" long by approximately 6 3/8" wide, and is about 5" tall, including the handle. This was sculpted in a lovely curved oval shape, with ornate asymmetrical handles. The pattern is so elegant in its simplicity...to me it is very French in style.

There is some fading or wear to the floral pattern, and fine crazing throughout. The cover has a fleabite and a chip on the rim (chip can be seen in fourth photo); the chip is slightly visible from the top. It also has a 1 1/4" hairline from the rim to the single dark leaf; it goes through to the inside (visible in third and fourth photos). All three handles have some discoloration, where the glaze has worn away. The inside of the bowl has some discoloration, several manufacturer's flaws, and a small round chip. The bowl also has a slightly rough spot on the rim (on one of the "points"). Overall, this is in lovely vintage condition, especially for a serving piece that is 110+ years old.

Classic and elegant, this would look beautiful in your transferware collection. Because it is done in black and white, it would also play nicely with your more contemporary pieces. This would be a wonderful addition to your dream cottage.
