My favorite find of the weekend! The woman who brought this gem to us conveyed that it was a present from her Father to her Mother when he returned from WWII.

The buckle is from the Japanese Imperial Navy and features embellished brass sides with a center round. The center round features a brass medallion with a silvered fouled anchor with a cherry blossom set on top. It clasps into a brass setting, with cross like opening. The setting has a rope border and a textured brass outer ring.

The fabric is black, maybe rayon? The belt fabric loops through each side of the buckle and is sewn together on one side. On the other the stitching has come undone and is held together with a safety pin. I don't know if the fabric is original to the buckle, or if the woman's father had a piece of fabric made for his wife when this was gifted to her. It would fit a 24" waist. The Buckle itself is about 2" in diameter at the round and about 3.5" from side - side.

Interesting souvenir from WWII, the Japanese Imperial Navy emblem is lovely.
