This kokeshi charm is so typical of Japan and is about 2 cm in length.

I'm heading to an antique market today in Kyoto where I will, once again, see beautiful Kokeshi dolls waiting to be taken home and placed in a collection where they can be loved. If you aren't familiar with them, they are simple wooden dolls, typically straight or slightly curved bodies with round heads. This particular one I hand carved is inspired from my personal collection. She has a rather large head of wood hair and is simply adorable.

Japan is the birthplace of precious metal clay (PMC), and happens to be where I live. If you haven't seen silver clay before, you might be surprised -- it looks like ordinary clay, but feels much heavier. Fine silver particles are mixed with an organic binder (cellulose) making it pliable. Silver clay is 99.9% PURE SILVER when it is fired. It has no copper like sterling silver, which is only 92.5% silver.
