Ivory Heart Link Earrings

These ivory heart link earrings are carved from one continuous piece of walrus ivory. Each earring has two hearts linked together. The ivory is from subsistence-hunted walrus ivory. Subsistence is a valued tradition that has been passed down for thousands of years. The walrus is hunted and harvested; every part of the walrus is used and nothing is wasted. Traditionally tusks were used to make tools and implements; over time Alaska Native artists use them to create artwork to sell. The artwork is often symbolic and reflective of important aspects of Alaska Native culture, nature, the elements, and our ancestors. Ivory carving in many rural Alaska Native communities is a tradition that has been preserved and passed down for many generations. It takes precision, patience, and knowledge to create each ivory carving The Inupiat cultural traditions can be shared with others through these exclusive and one of a kind earrings. Each earring has a signature on it. Dimensions 0.5 x 1.5 x 0.1 (in.)
