I'm calling this miniature bedpread a sample, because the words "SANDMAN SPREAD" are woven into it, and I'm assuming that was the name of the company that made it. I believe it was used as a cover for a doll bed or cradle - very appropriate with the picture of a little child sleeping on the crescent moon. It looks to me to date from the 1st quarter of the 20th century. The fabric is a pink and cream cotton that is the weight of a summer bedspread (in other words, not a very thick, heavy fabric). The fabric is in very good condition, with no holes or stains, but some of the overcast stitching on the edges is coming off here and there. As you can see from the photos, 3 of the corners show wear. It's 13" x 10-1/2."
