A hybrid item. A /Russian/ Compromise. 12 inches

Hand turned Hedge Apple. 12 inches long. The compromise is the hook at the end.

Part of a Hedge Apple fence post that spent many years guarding an Illinois pasture.
Very stable age checks that are the memory of the seasons...The wood of many names and uses...
Bodark to the hill folk. Bois des Arc's to the French trappers...Hedge Apple to the great Victorian Farm Mechanism...Osage Orange in common parlance. Lovely Bow wood to the Osage’s who guarded its sanctuary… Beautiful & tough. Aldo Leopold spent many of his winters making bows from this wood...

Hedge darkens as it ages...But it takes a long time. This fence post spindle must have stood its ground for many a long year...

The Ruler and ball of yarn are just for illustration.

A Wood Turner's Note: All of the wood I use, are discards that a cabinet maker will not touch. Burls, Twists, Knots, Heavy Figuring...All unwanted by production shops, are a thing of beauty to me. Sometimes a piece sets for a decade before it tells me what it wants to be. The bases of my Kate's are a fine example of this principle.

My items are all guaranteed. If you do not like it, you can send it back & I will refund the purchase price...No questions.
