What poets did the editors of the Little Leather Library think worth including in their massive book? A good many of the great poets of the 19th century, including Walt Whitman and Edgar Allan Poe - and a few of the more obscure, including John Shaw and Arturo Giovannitti.

This small book has 96 pages and measures approximately 3 1/8" x 3 7/8". The deep green and brown covers are blind stamped with the title and decorative embellishments.

The Little Leather Library books were issued in the 1920s. The first few issues of the series were bound in leather, but later issues were bound in a pressed imitation leather made of latex-covered canvas created by the Dupont Company. This is one of the later issues. You will note that the imitation leather has a natural pleasant, sweet smell, peculiar to the product.

Any time one finds one of these, one must realize that the tiny books are fragile - the materials used in making them were not high-end, and mass-produced .... and thus, for one, the paper is always toned, especially the title leaf, and the last leaf that lay adjacent to the insides of the cover; and secondly, the faux leather covers have become a bit brittle with age.

All that being said, these nifty relics from the beginning of the mass merchandising era, are charming touchstones to the past. And ... if you are pressed for space, these take up practically no space at all. there were approximately 101 titles issued in The Little Leather Library.

The cover, which must, unavoidably, be considered as brittle, has mild surface rub and abrasion (the latter most noticeable at the bottom of the front cover - the paper is toned - Else clean and presentable with but near-negligible signs of use
