This particular button was molded from an antique piece of handmade lace. When finished, it reminded me of the straightforward flower forms of Colonial times..definitely a flower, but simple and formalized at the same time. And you know, times weren't really simpler then... that's a lie ; ). But this button makes me think they could have been.
This imprint was made from a scrap of beautiful antique lace. Forty years ago (!) when I was a child, a friend of my grandmother's gave me a box of antique lace pieces. Even then I loved fabrics and textiles, and she was sweet enough to realize that I would always treasure them. Over the years they have been used for various precious projects...covering wedding albums, extra special pillows. Now in my metal clay work I have a chance to use the tiny pieces that were too exquisite to discard, but not big enough for other projects. Hooray!
Formed of bronze clay, each one is molded and the shank is added by hand. They are then kiln fired, hand and tumbler polished, given a darkened finish and polished again to bring out all the natural highlights and detail.
This is the button you use when you need one bravo button, or maybe at most two or three. It would be great on a cardigan, or a poncho, or hat, or used to close a felted purse.
If you need more than one, please indicate under 'quantities' during checkout. There may be a week or so production time if I don’t have your amount in stock when you order.
In order to keep costs down, this is a photo of a representative button. I will be glad to send you a copy of the one(s) you will be getting, please just ask.
These may be hand washed, very very delicately machine washed, or dry cleaned.
