This Madonna is a tad over 9" tall. It is impressed with the name Unger on the back of the base, It is impressed with the mark HM 141 on the bottom and has the number 49 there and says Western Germany. I'm assuming that means it was made in 1949. I could be wrong. I think this is an earlier piece because of the Hummel V mark and because it says Western Germany, I assume this was made after the war. If it is this old, it is in remarkable shape. I bought it fairly recently and was told it was in mint shape. It is in mint shape, BUT, I gave it the water and feel test and did find a tiny pin flea bite nic on the left side on the edge of the cape ( 4th photo). It is tiny but when water hits that exposed part you can see where it enters the glaze (it eventually dries out), you can feel a little bit of roughness there too. Even when hit with water, though, I could not find a single craze mark and no other rough spot except at the bottom tip of the cape but there is no chip or scrape there. Must have been from the factory.

I'm no expert but I think this is a very rare hummel Madonna. I have not seen another like it anywhere on the internet, unlike other models of which there are dozens. The stance itself is very unusual for a hummel Madonna where the cape is billowing out and she is sort of leaning forward. Most of them are much more still and placid.

This Madonna is also very light weight compared to most hummels and the finish is very high gloss.

Because I do not do returns or exchanges and have some high priced items I try to knit pick out even the most insignificant "flaws" and this spot is about all I can find wrong with it.
