This gorgeous antique complete Coffee/Tea Service is made by Meriden. It is quadruple plate, or 4 layers of silver over brass. This set was manufactured probably at the tail end of the 1890's.

What I love about this set is that it's lines are clean and modern for the era it was produced in. It is Victorian and has aspects of that era's usual dramatic motif - but it's also of the Aesthetic movement...a contemporary blend of both in the times it was made to my way of thinking.

It sits squarely on a slightly raised base. It has a beautiful engraved pattern with room for a monogram - it has not been monogrammed.

The set is in fantastic but not perfect condition for its age. Some dents so slight they won't photograph and the sugar (or bisquet bin, since its huge!) has one spot in the top that won't polish. It may be a bad stain or one area where the plate is worn. It is smooth to the touch and the interior of the sugar is pristine - so I don't know what's up with that spot. It doesn't detract - but please see the pictures.
