Circa 1870, Aesthetic brown transferware tureen bottom (no lid) in the highly desirable Phileau pattern. Sailboats, tall ships in cartouche one side, a waterfall verso. Substantial and heavy. Repurpose as a serving bowl, cache pot or planter.

Mfg. by CW Turner, Tunstall, England with Victorian Era registration mark boldly embossed on bottom w/ PHILEAU TURNER .

This Staffordshire ironstone pattern was produced in at least three variations of brown transfer: dark chocolate, cinnamon and a lighter taupe brown.

This tureen has the lighter taupe brown transfer. See last photo for comparison of transfer hues; these pieces are listed individually.

Overall clean, bright and excellent intact condition. One handle has a very old, worn, flat flake that is minimally noticeable. One pea-size spot at stilt mark inside. No cracks, hairlines, crazing, discoloration or repairs observed. Rim is slightly out-of-square but does not detract from use or display.
