Beautiful card/inkle weaving beaters, hand crafted from beautiful African Mahogany with a firm sharp edge perfect for working on weaving bands. The beaters are heavy enough to pack down your weft, but light enough to allow for hours of weaving. The finish is a light linseed oil to allow the beauty of the wood to shine through, and all the beaters have been hand sanded with a 1500 grit sandpaper to a silky, smooth touch. African Mahogany is a Heartwood that is reddish brown, and exhibits an optical phenomenon known as chatoyancy.

Chatoyancy can also be used to refer to a similar effect in woodworking, where certain finishes will cause the wood grain to achieve a striking three-dimensional appearance.[1] This effect is often highly sought after, and is sometimes referred to as "wet look", since wetting wood with water often displays the chatoyancy, albeit only until the wood dries. Oil finishes and shellac can bring out the effect strongly.(source, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatoyancy)

These beaters have a 5.25 inch edge, 3 inches width at the weft holder, and 3.75 inches at the top. The overall width is 2.5 inches.
