I am madly in love with the print on this super cute 50s era (possibly earlier) house dress!

I think this could be transformed into the CUTEST kitchen apron! I considered doing that myself, in fact. But I've got more projects than I have time, so I'm realizing I'm never going to get to it. :)

-- description --
Dress and matching vest are white with all-over print of vases in various sizes and shapes. The vases are tall, short, skinny, and fat. They are red, yellow-orange, light grayish blue, navy blue, and navy blue & white striped. Then there are also red bowl vases that are filled red flowers with navy blue branches. The vest has matching navy blue piping around arm holes and down front of vest. The dress has this same navy blue piping at shoulder straps and around pocket flaps.

Dress has two deep front pockets with fold over flaps. They are straight pockets, not the slanted kind. (So you can bury your hands down in them, use them to hold your kitchen utensils while cooking, or fill them with candy when the kids are around!) Dress has a single belt loop at each side at the hips, however no belt is included.

Button front of dress has six round buttons. Five are black plastic, which I believe are the dress's original buttons. They are raised like a dome. Three of these buttons still have the small rhinestone attached in their centers. Two of them are missing the rhinestone. The 4th button from the top is, I suspect, probably not original to this dress. It is a larger, flat, clear button.

Upon request, I would be happy to provide more photos of whatever you desire.

-- condition --
Good vintage condition. Material is naturally light/thin, with some areas thinner than others. However, I haven't found any holes in the vest or dress. Interior has lots of hanging threads, though none of the stitching appears to be loose or otherwise affected. You may desire to trim these interior long threads, as some might hang out when worn. None are exterior strings, as far as I can tell. Exterior seams appear securely stitched throughout, except where noted:
- the left strap has loose stitching at the back, where it attaches to the dress body
- the right front pocket has loose stitching at one corner (see last photo)
Both of these defects would be easily mended with a few repair stitches. I have not attempted, mainly because I suspect its buyer may choose to repurpose it in one way or another.

Material does have a few small stains. Fortunately, due to the variety in the pattern, they aren't actually all that noticeable. Those I found are at the top of the right shoulder strap, at the right chest area, one near the clear center button, and one just above the right pocket (near the part where the pocket stitching is loose; in the last photo, it's the brownish area at the top of the photo, between the yellow and blue vases). I have counted three tiny brown spots at different areas down the front of the skirt portion of the dress. I have not found any spots on the back of the dress or on either side of the vest.

Shoulder straps have been taken in at the top of the dress. They were stitched up to make the straps shorter at the top of the shoulder area on both straps. Fortunately, the seamstress opted to simply fold and then stitch them as is, without actually cutting the fabric at all. So if you'd like to remove the tailoring, it appears it should be easy enough to remove those stitches and get the straps back to their original length without affecting their appearance much, if at all.

-- size --
I would estimate this to be a small or extra-small.
There is no tag inside. It's possible it was actually handmade, though I cannot say for certain.
I try to measure clothing as accurately as possible, with each garment lying flat.
Measurements taken across front of garment. I do not accept returns, so please review the following measurements:

18 inches wide, armpit to armpit
12 inches long, from top seam of arm hole to bottom hem
14 1/2 inches wide at shoulders, from armhole to opposite armhole

(note these measurements, as the dress material does not have much stretch or give to it)
13 1/2 inches wide at narrowest part of waist
16 inches wide, from armpit to armpit
14 inches wide at shoulders, from armhole to opposite armhole
39 inches long, from center of scoop neck (measured just above where the buttons are) down to bottom hem
43 inches long, from top seam of arm hole to bottom hem

(rates current as of 1/22/2012)
