First, I hand-cut the leaf shape from raw copper sheet, then annealed and textured it using a brass texture sheet. I then riveted it to a hand-formed copper base, creating a hook at one end, and fastening a ring at the other. I then antiqued the entire piece to a light chestnut color and tumbled it to a high shine. The entire piece has been sealed in a high-grade lacquer to preserve patina and shine.
The clasp measures about 4.5 cm long, and 2.7 cm wide. It is, of course, heavier than a more basic clasp, so this should be kept in mind when designing an asymmetrical necklace. I do think it works better when placed to one side or the other, although it could possibly be used as a removable pendant in a convertible pendant/necklace design.
