Thank you for stopping by my shop.
If a bowl could represent Spring this is the one. When I started turning this bowl on my lathe I was surprised at the bright yellow bursts of color on each end which reminded me that Spring. The bowl is turned from a nice piece of Honey Locust from a rather large tree that was blown over in a wind storm. The bowl was turned wet to its final thickness of approximately ¼ inch and then painstakingly dried over time. As with all bowls that are turned from "wet" wood it has taken on its own uniqueness in the drying process. The resulting bowl is slightly oval in shape. The piece measures approximately 8.5 inches across and is approximately 3.5 inches tall. I have beveled the upper edge inward.
Despite its name, the honey locust is not a significant honey plant. The name derives from the sweet taste of the legume pulp, which was used for food by Native Americans, and can also be fermented to make beer. Honey Locusts produce a high quality, durable wood that polishes well and displays a beautiful grain.
The bowl has been finished with several coats of a "food safe" bowl finish. If used for food it is simply wiped clean with a wet cloth versus submersing it in water. The bowl is perfect for holding fruit, ornaments or flowers or can be displayed on its own as a beautiful piece of home décor.

Thanks again. Tim
