While helping my Mom clean out her cupboards of things she's held on to forever, I found some spice tins. I brought them home not knowing quite what I'd do with them, but knowing that they were just "too good to throw away". While they sat in my kitchen waiting to be put away, I decided to make dolls with them. The three tins have become the "Spice Girls", or should I say "Spice Ladies".
This one is Nutmeg. She's just 5 inches tall and has wings of rusted wire. She's wearing a hat that I've embellished with a band made from an old scarf in a pretty pastel pink and a bit of vintage jewelry. She's wearing a vintage crochet collar accented with another bit of vintage jewelry and a neck scarf made from more of the same scarf. She's tucked her wand into the brim of her hat so she won't drop that bottle of spiked eggnog she's supposed to spice up.
I've made her from antique doll finds excavated from the grounds of German doll factories operating between 1890 and 1920. She's got blonde hair, flushed cheeks (probably from taste testing the eggnog) and blue eyes.
A perfect gift for a special baker (or eggnog lover) in your life or a unique addition to any collection.
