1908 Woman - Women of England
Woman in All Ages & All Countries - by Bartlett Burleigh James, Ph.D.

Bartlett Burleigh James (1867-1953) was an author & historian. He wrote three books in the "Woman in All Ages..." series: the original book of that title & then 2 more specific... "Women of England" & "Women of Modern France."
"Women of England" is a generalized yet detailed 425 page history of the women of England which starts with Chapter 1 ~ Women of Prehistoric Britain & runs through to Chapter 14 ~ Women of the Nineteenth Century (Chapter 15 ~ Women of Scotland and Ireland ~ is the last chapter.) The book attempts to describe (in that fairly wordy late 19th century style) everything that would have affected the life of a woman in the given time period: everyday activities, amusements, family, government, politics, religion, fashion, food, transportation, education, work, freedoms (or lack thereof) and on & on. Full of lots of info as it was known in the late 19th century. Lovely purple & white illustration of Lady Godiva on cover page.

This 5.5" X 8" X 1.5" book is in very good condition. There are no tears, folds or staining & only slight age-toning. Two of the chapters ~ the Tudor Period & the Nineteenth Century ~ have infrequent very small pencil marks in the text (as if someone was doing research). The spine is broken on the cover page, tho' not badly (see pic 4, bottom of book). The cover & exterior spine are simply beautiful...purple, marbled fabric with lovely detailed giltwork. At over 100 years old, this edition is in truly beautiful condition.

A very lovely, fact-filled addition to any library :)

A word about shipping rates & multiple item orders... While shipping is carefully calculated on each item to keep your delivery cost low, if you're interested in multiple items it may be possible to save more by combining shipping. Email me with the items you're interested in, & I will reserve the listings while we work out a combined rate to ship the all the goods in the same box.
