A handmade stained glass round suncatcher made of upcycled bottles. A unique abstract piece that would look beautiful as home decor.

This suncatcher is made of thirteen round glass jar bottoms. Some came from jars of pickles or pizza sauce, some from jars of yeast, some from wine bottles. I broke the bottoms off each jar, then ground the edges smooth, wrapped the jar bottom in foil and soldered them together. The smallest glass circle is 1.5 inches around and the largest is 3.5 inches around. They range in color from clear, to amber brown to shades of green. The design of the glass circles is unique to this piece-I just arranged various sizes and colors that would fit together. The spaces in between the circles is left open. Since these are all upcycled pieces, many of the glass circles have markings in the glass of numbers, letters, and ridges. There is also a dimensional level to this suncatcher because some of the jar bottoms are thicker than others, or are cut with some of the jar sides still there. The light green circle in the middle is from a wine bottle and curves outward about 1 inch.

This entire piece is held together in a 10.5 inch circular frame of 1/4 inch thick copper tubing. It hangs from 12 inches of copper chain that is soldered at the top of the circle. I also used copper patina on the solder so that the entire piece is the same copper color of the outer circle. The copper is not bright, but more of a rustic look with some darker spots.

All my glass pieces are made using the Tiffany method of copper foil and solder, along with my own imaginings. Each piece will be unique because of the variance of patterns within the glass, and the handmade quality. More of my items can be viewed here http://www.fivesparrows.etsy.com

Frequently asked questions about FiveSparrows

I am happy to do a custom order if it is feasible to create. Don't hesitate to ask, and I can let you know if it is doable. I am happy to work with you on designs and colors, and will do some messaging back and forth with you to make sure you end up with a finished project that you enjoy.

I don't do anything that is copyrighted by someone else (team logos, movie characters etc) and am unable to do large leaded items.
Hang sun catchers on a stable hanger in a window-I would recommend a nail or hook over a suction cup. Outdoor garden art can be outside in the elements, as long as they are brought inside in the winter. (or a strong wind-use your judgement-I have garden stakes that stay out all summer and hold up fine)

Over time the glass and solder can get dusty or tarnished. The glass can be wiped clean with non-ammonia cleaner and a soft cloth. Car wax can also be applied over the piece and then buffed off with a soft rag. This will clean the solder lines and shine the glass as well.
My items are shipped between layers of cardboard, and tied with a raffia ribbon. I am happy to add a note if you are sending the item as a gift. Just send me a message or a note when ordering of what you would like included.
I am happy to do wholesale pricing if you are ordering over 10 of an item. My ability to do large orders is limited by time - it is just one person creating, so I can only work so fast. Please ask about wholesale items though and remember to allow extra time for the creating process.
Item size is included in each listing. If you have a question, please ask.
