Back in Canada when I was little (back in the 1960s!), my favourite type of candy (or "sweetie" as they say here in England) was something called Party Mints. They were sort of in the shape of Hershey's Kisses but were mint-flavoured and pastel-coloured: pink, green, turquoise, white, and pale yellow. It wasn't so much the flavour as the wonderful colours that made me love them!

Well, isn't it funny how things can roll around in your subconscious for a lifetime. I sat down in my little creating corner (and I mean little!), randomly put together some fibers, and out pops a Party Mints yarn!

This bulky/chunky, thick and thin, single ply skein is composed of pink, turquoise, lime, and pale yellow merino blended together and then mixed with creamy white fleece from the sheep of the Cheviot Hills, the hills that form the border between Scotland and England. The highest of these hills is a little over 2,500 feet and the region is mostly barren of trees; the sheep of this area are a tough and very old breed. Cheviotsheep.org states: "From the date of Bannockburn, or earlier, to that of the Union, there is no reliable information further than that sheep were in 1372 'a small but very hardy race over large tracts of the Cheviot Hills.'" 1372!!!

After spinning, I "fulled" the yarn by boiling it in a big pot, stirring, stirring, until it reached a felted texture, making a loosely spun single yarn as strong and hardy as the Cheviot sheep! Also, I didn't skein this yarn when drying it, so it has a very curlywurly look :-)

The merino fleece is sourced from non-mulesing flocks and the dyes are non toxic.

135 grams (4.7 ounces), approximately 72 yards long, spun in a pet and smoke free environment. Yarn Weight = 5 wraps per inch on average (Bulky).
