Cozy, comfortable, durable and earth-friendly rugs.
Brought to a new level by combining traditional and contemporary concepts and colors.
All designs are original, and each is one-of-a-kind.
Cloth yarn is made from clean, newly washed upcycled fabrics and textiles and created in a smoke-free home.
I slip join the strips as I go along so there are no weak spots where things are stitched together with thread. This makes an extra durable rug and eliminates surprise holes popping open and the need for future mending.

This round rainbow-themed rug measures 30 inches across.
Perfect for nursery, bath or for a child's room, rainbows make a durable play mats that kids love and learn from!

From a distance it has the look of misty color against a waterfall and has the proper order of a natural primary rainbow, violet on the innermost curve and red on the out, like those most often seen.
Up close it brings to mind paper candy buttons or striped drinking straws with small lines of strong color nestled against the light fabric.
It's base is pure white with a plain center and generous boarder.
Two bands of each color are created using the traditional Norwegian marled ragg technique combining cloth and yarn, which makes a consistent flecked pattern.
Visually, the colors flow evenly into one another and closely mimic a real rainbow.
The outer most ring is made of a smooth cotton knit for an extra polished finish, with staggered stitches that are slightly decorative, but not strong enough to compete with the delicacy of the overall design.

-The photos shown are of a rug sold to a previous customer. This is a listing for a custom order for the same style, and size, but not this rug exactly.
It can be made in these exact colors, or those of your own choice.
Turn around time for custom orders is usually about two weeks until shipping, sometimes more for rugs four feet and larger, depending on back orders.

Feel welcome to contact me to discuss variations for custom sizes, shapes or colors. I’m easy to work with and will send a photo of the finished rug for approval before shipping.
With these I can vary the color of the largest rings by what color I start with. It really changes the look of the rug, and if the last white rings are left off, will override the all-colorness and be a compliment to a color scheme while still being a full rainbow.

Cleaning and care:
My own rugs go into the washing machine using the gentle cycle, and I dry them 90% in the dryer then lay them flat to finish.
A gentle tug here and there will correct any distortion from the wash. Especially with the rectangular shapes - the corners will pull into themselves if dried completely in the dryer.
In the era of the original crocheted rug, starch was added to the final rinse. I do this too. You can get a pre-dissolved bottle in the laundry isle then add it in once the last tub has filled. It really helps in keeping the rugs bright as the dirt adheres to the layer of starch first, protects it and keeps it cleaner by acting as a buffer to the fabric.

Crocheted rugs have two levels of impact; the obvious overall finished product, but also a closer place where the different patterns and textures of the fabrics has changed, where they blend with others and create a second layer of information. A sort of individual personality. A story.
