These are suzume or sparrows. They were painted by Keigetsu Matsubayashi (1876-1963)
also known as Keigetsu Sanjin/ Ito Atsushi . He is one of the "nihonga" style painters. Nihonga or literally "Japanese-style paintings" is a term used to describe paintings that have been made in accordance with traditional Japanese artistic conventions, techniques and materials. While based on traditions over a thousand years old, the term was coined in the Meiji period of the Imperial Japan, to distinguish such works from Western-style paintings.

The "showa" period is from 1926-1989 but this is at least 49 years old. It is written on a paper board called "shikishi". This is in excellent condition but it is vintage so there are imperfections. There are "dots" on the paper board which are related to its age.

This would be perfect for decorating it on the wall at home.

It measures 24cm wide x 27cm long.
