Beautiful extra large antique Swiss railroad pocket watch for creative projects or possibly restoration/repair. This watch is heavy and huge, measuring a whopping 3-1/4 inches (8.5cm) in length including the loop and 2-1/4 inches (5.8cm) in diameter! It features a gorgeous white porcelain face with lovely orange-red enameled guilloche numbers and dotted gold detailing. Both ornate copper-tone hands are present. The top of the face has an image of a locomotive and underneath is a separate second hand section marked "Railroad Time Keeper Special Full Jewelled." (This is likely a European piece as "jewelled" is the British spelling of the American "jeweled.") The crystal cover is present and appears to be in good condition with some minor surface scratches and a few teeny tiny nicks along the edge of the glass--not noticeable without close inspection. The silver-tone metal case is slightly oxidized in a couple spots, tarnished, scuffed, and scratched from over the years. It features an engraved pattern around the watch face and the back lid can be unscrewed to reveal the movement inside (see 2nd photo). The inside of the lid is marked "Silverode" with a crown symbol followed by "471652." The movement is marked "Railroad Timekeeper Serial 785670"--the tail end of the number is covered by a watch part so the last 2 digits are a guess. It's also marked "Swiss" and "Full Jewelled" at the bottom with the same locomotive image as the face. Overall this piece does not seem to work, however when I removed the back lid and the watch was on a slight slant on my desk it started ticking away. At some angles it will just start intermittently ticking when wound. A beautiful piece as is, but would be great for jewelry projects or possibly restoration/repair--I'm not sure what it would take to fix it so I'm offering this piece as is for its intrinsic beauty and rarity as well!
