These are beautiful pieces of authentic vintage Mexican Talavera Pottery from Gorky Gonzalez, founder of Alfareria Tradicional in Guanajuato, Mexico.

From the cosas.com website, which carries Gorky's current creations:

"Alfareria Tradicional certifies that each of its pieces has been carefully created and hand painted according to the traditional Majolica designs and forms of the Spanish colonial period in Mexico (1521-1810).

Gorky Gonzalez, founder and artistic director of Alfareria Tradicional began his studies under his father, the sculptor Rodolfo Gonzalez. In 1962 Gorky built an artistic foundry in San Miguel Allende, and founded a pottery workshop in Guanajuato in order to reproduce the traditional Majolica of the region. In 1965, Gorky was granted a scholarship to study pottery in Japan under the artists Tsuji Seimei and Kei Fijiwara, considered two of Japan’s living treasures.

Since his return from Japan, Gorky has devoted himself to the preservation of the traditional Majolica technique utilizing the original designs from the colonial period. Alfareria Tradicional has become the most important Majolica workshop in Mexico.

In 1992, the President of Mexico awarded Gorky Gonzalez the National Award of Sciences and Arts in the field of Popular Art and Traditions for “his exceptional contribution to Mexican popular art.” He has exhibited his work in galleries worldwide."

Measurements: Saucer is 6.5" in diameter, the cup is a little more than 4.5" diameter and stands about 3.5" high. There are no post-manufacture flaws (no chips or dings or cracks) other than some crazing. The piece is rustic and handmade, so there are areas devoid of glaze, some pitting, firing flaws, etc., as depicted in the photos
