Based on a 9th century Viking era find from York, these panpipes are ideal for any reenactor, LARPer, medieval musician or historical educator. We have supplied many of these instruments to individuals and institutions including the Jorvik Viking Centre and Ringve Musical Instrument Museum (Norway).

The Viking panpipe is played by blowing across the edge of the holes like blowing across the top of a bottle. These instruments play a scale of 5 notes, ideal for simple improvisations. This listing is for a panpipe in the key of D Major.

These instruments are cut from maple wood, the holes drilled out, edge hardened with a hot iron, then fine tuned with beeswax and finished to a high standard with three coats of natural oils. The panpipe is supplied with a leather hanging cord so it can be worn around the neck or on the belt.

The photographs are for illustrative purposes, the instrument you receive will be similar to the ones in the photograph but not identical, as all these instruments are unique. As wood is a natural product there will of course be variations and imperfections in grain, knots, spalting, inclusions etc.

All our instruments are supplied with an instruction sheet.
