Although widely thought of as an Aboriginal Australian instruments, the bullroarer is one of the few musical instruments known on every continent. Bullroarers of tremendous antiquity have been found, and it must be considered part of our common human heritage. From the Basque Tuluhu used in Catholic folk religion to the Dionysian rituals of Ancient Greece or the storm raising powers of English West Country Witches it has had a place in Europe's magical traditions too.

Playing a bullroarer is easy, simply whirl it around your head! Once it starts spinning it will emit a strange unearthly sound.

These bullroarers are hand split from New Forest alder logs, then dimensioned and shaped and finished with three coats of natural oils. Each is strung with hemp string. they are medium sized, the size we consider acoustically best.

The photographs are for illustrative purposes, the instrument you receive will be similar to the ones in the photograph but not identical, as all these instruments are unique. As wood is a natural product there will of course be variations and imperfections in grain, knots, spalting, inclusions etc.

Bullroarers come with an instruction sheet and spare string.
