A perfect gift for the mathematician in your life... It's a set of topologically interesting surfaces made of soft flexible felt. This set has three pieces. In the first photo, I am holding the Borromean Rings, which is a set of three rings that are all linked together, even though no two of them are linked to each other. The other two pieces are surfaces, which each have three edges and two faces.

One of the surfaces is called the Seifert surface of the Borromean Rings. As a consequence, the edge or boundary is the same configuration as the rings. The other surface is still a Seifert surface of three rings, but the rings are in a different configuration. The puzzle is to figure out which is which.

I made these by needle felting and wet felting wool and silk. The colors are dark red, black and gray. These little sculpture is stiff enough to hold their shape, but still flexible enough to be folded. They have no seams. They can be flipped inside out and arranged to sit in different configurations. And since they are durably wet felted, they won't crease or crumble or tear.

It's hard to measure how big they are exactly, but the largest piece is about 4 inches long. Between their size and the durability of felt, you could easily use them as key chains, zipper pulls, fobs, or other decorations.

This is original art. The set is also an educational model. Think of it as a cuddly mind game, a little plushy to entertain your brain.
