Second only to the drum, the rattle is a tool of the shaman to induce trance and allow contact with spirits and work healing. In this day and age sometimes the rattle is preferred as it can be used more subtlety where the booming of a drum may be problematic.

Each part of a spiritual tool brings a different energy to the whole. Hazelnuts are said to impart wisdom and inspiration. Rabbit fur and deer leather for abundance. Poplar for vision. Quartz crystals for health and energy.

Poplars are water loving trees and spending time near one you can understand how they have come to associate with water. The slightest breeze transforms a poplar grove into a rushing river. Hazel is also found frequently by water and was typically a marker for sacred wells. The sound of this rattle inspires the same sensation of water over rocks or wind in the trees.

Each hazelnut was carefully hand cut and sanded and the poplar wood was also carefully sanded to a fine finish. The wood grain is very nice and even has some chatoyancy to it. Chatoyancy is a term used to refer to shimmer found in many stones like tigers eye and sometimes wood will have it as well. It is sealed with my own homemade natural wood polish. Like my wands no artificial adhesives were used in the making of this tool.

Measures 15 inches long by about 4 inches wide.
