This small bowl was wheel thrown and altered to square the sides. It has a deeply trimmed foot to enhance its presence and dignity. The tenmoku, or high-iron, liner glaze is flecked with amber-gold. The unglazed rim, sides and foot of the bowl were toasted to a warm reddish gold in the wood burning kiln. The contrast between the slightly glossy lining and the rustic exterior is pleasing.

The markings on the foot of the bowl are left by the "wads" or props used to prevent ware from adhering to the shelf in a wood burning kiln and are a valued trait of the process.

The bowl measures approximately 4 1/4" diameter, or 4 7/8" catacorner, and 2 3/4" height.

The bowl is food safe and could become a favorite dessert vessel or it might become a serene display piece.
